Road trips are something we all have wanted to do. A weekend getaway, summer calling or the addictive spring breeze, everyone has their reasons. Tell me you aren’t guilty of that dream to drop everything and keep driving on that open road. Call your buddies, fire up the car and hit the road, might sound adventurous, mind it, it’s not smart. Preparing a bit can help you enjoy the travel way more.

So here are 5 must haves for your road trip

1. Plan your travel

travel plan

Decide on a destination. Pick a route. Check google maps, familiarize yourself with the route. Check out the highway restaurants, the petrol pumps and the terrain you are going to be driving on. Thanks to technology, google maps gives it all. Don’t forget to pick your partner, or friends or family. You do need someone to enjoy the ride with. No harm in going alone also. Prebook your hotel and don’t forget to give them a call before reaching. Some hotel have policies of cancelling rooms for no-show by check in time. Remember to get your tank full before leaving.

2. Carry the essentials

Don’t forget the first aid kit, and the car repair/maintenance kit. Flashlights and band aids might go a long way in saving you. Take along a spare set of keys in case they get locked inside the car or dropped from your pocket. Keep a mobile charger or adapter.

3. Your Travel Playlist

Don’t forget to take your favorite songs and music along for the ride. Yes, FM radio is always there but a good song collection works wonders in making the trip more enjoyable. Also you never know when you might lose radio signals. Don’t forget to carry along a playlist full of every genre. Blues or jazz or anything, your trip will be quite memorable one with them.

4. Car food

Carrying food along is always a boon. A cooler full of water bottles and a few soft drinks will come in handy throughout your trip. Throw in few snacks, such as fruits, granola bars, crackers and nuts, along with a few fun treats, in your travel bag. You can always take sandwiches if you know you’ll be driving through areas with limited eateries. How about a picnic lunch to enjoy at a roadside park?

5. Paper Stuff

Being on the road, you never know when you might need paper towels and toilet paper. Keep in handy a box of tissues, and some garbage bags. Always carry more than you think you’ll need. Be prepared for sudden car sickness or the general spills.
