Life isn’t perfect but your hair can be.
Let me first tell you what is dry hair.
Hair becomes dry when it’s unable to retain enough moisture. In general hair has no natural lubrication. It heavily depends on oils produced in the hair root for moisturisation. There are several reason why someone is suffering of dry hair, but that’s for another post. Lack of moisturisation not only robs the hair of it’s natural luster but also makes it lifeless and dull.
My Hair
I have been blessed with worst kind of hair ever. I have dry frizzy hair and on top of that every winter I get massive dandruff attack. There’s dandruff in my hair, on my face, on my clothes. Where ever I go, my dandruff just follows me. If there was a 0 to 10 scale measure for dandruff, I would be 20 on that.
What I use?
My secret weapon against dry hair is this magic plant “aloe vera”. Aloe Vera masks are God’s blessings to hair.
How I use it?
I use aloe vera gel in two ways:
1. Lazy days
On lazy days, I just want something easy and as simplistic as possible. I oil my hair and leave it overnight. I generally use a mixture of figaro olive oil and pure coconut oil. Pure coconut oils are the one, that get frozen in winter. You can use any oil though, I prefer oils without any mineral oil.
After letting the oil sink in at night, the next morning I shampoo my hair. But before shampoo I apply aloe vera on my hair and keep it for 10 minutes. You can use natural aloe vera from the plant or you can get commercial ones like ‘Patanjali Aloe Vera gel’, “Fabindia Aloe Vera Cucumber gel” or ” Brihans Aloe Vera gel”. I have used the Brihans Aloe Vera gel in Pune (bit dry weather), Fabindia one in Mumbai (humid) and Patanjali one I use every now and then.
Many people prefer mild and chemical free shampoo. Shampoos generally have chemicals such as SLS and SLES which help in lathering it up. So the mild shampoos won’t lather much, and it becomes a pain to wash away that much oil. In these scenarios I just dilute my regular shampoo and use it. To dilute your shampoo you need to mix 1/4th of the shampoo with 3/4th water and use it. I generally use The Body Shop Banana Shampoo. After washing and towel drying my hair, I use Loreal Paris hair serum on the tips of my hair. Never apply serum or conditioners on your scalp, as they can clog the follicles that produce natural hair oil. It’s always advised to use them on mid-lengths to tips of the hair.
2. Other Days
On other days I make a hair mask consisting of following ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
- 1 tsp honey
- 2 Vitamin E capsules (Evion 400)
- 1 tsp lemon juice (extracted from fresh lemon)
- 1 tsp pure almond oil
For this mask you can use any aloe vera gel, natural or commercial. I use Evion 400 Vitamin E capsules. I prick them and use the gel inside the capsule. Pure almond oil such as Dabur Roghan Badam Shirin are very good. I mix all these ingredients with a fork in a bowl and apply on my hair. I apply it allover my hair, from scalp to tips. Then I keep it for 30 minutes and then wash it with shampoo. Same diluted shampoo as stated above. After towel drying my hair, I apply the same serum as stated above.
Go love your hair this way and let me know of the wonders in the comment section below.
